Things to do near Thurston Manor & Dunbar
Build your break around the eastern side of East Lothian. A stay at Thurston Manor gives you a reason to plan time around Dunbar and the surrounding area, with Edinburgh as a separate day out if it fits your trip.
Make time for Dunbar
Start with a visit to Dunbar rather than immediately planning a long drive. Use the town as a place to pause, explore and organise the rest of your break. Check opening hours directly for any shop, café or attraction that is a must for your group.
John Muir Country Park
John Muir Country Park is an option for a nature-focused outing on the East Lothian coast. Choose a route that suits your group, check weather and access information and leave time for the return. John Muir Country Park visitor information ↗.
Outdoor activities and a rainy-day alternative
Research Foxlake Adventures for an activity-led day, or the National Museum of Flight for a different kind of outing. Confirm age limits, bookings, opening and travel before making promises to younger guests. The East Lothian attractions directory ↗ is a useful place to start.
East Linton and a wider county day
Explore East Linton or build a longer outing towards North Berwick and the coast. Allow time to enjoy fewer stops rather than trying to see the whole county at once. Choose towns and villages to explore.
Edinburgh by train via Dunbar
For Edinburgh, compare a transfer from Thurston Manor to Dunbar station followed by a suitable train. The transfer is separate from the rail journey; check how you will get back to the park after returning. For transport options, station links and advice on planning your return journey, see our getting around guide. The 26 bus guidance is for the Seton Sands area, not a direct service from Thurston Manor.
Before booking your park break
Review the property listing and confirm which facilities or passes are included. Park facilities and accommodation availability may vary by season. If you are booking for a particular attraction or activity, confirm that it is open for your dates first.
