Golf breaks in East Lothian: choose your base

A good golf trip leaves room to enjoy the coast as well as the course. Choose the rounds you want to play first, then select accommodation around the tee times, your group and the transport you will need.

Longniddry, Aberlady and the western coast

Look at Longniddry Golf Club, Craigielaw and Kilspindie when planning rounds around this part of East Lothian. A stay in the wider Seton Sands area may be worth comparing for a group that also wants time in Edinburgh. Check the actual property location against each course rather than treating all coastal accommodation as equally close.

Gullane, Muirfield and North Berwick

Include Gullane, Muirfield and North Berwick in your research if these courses are on your wish list. Visitor access is controlled by each club: check booking windows, handicap requirements, dress codes and available tee times directly before paying for accommodation. Naming a course here does not imply a City & Cove partnership or reserved tee times.

Dunbar and the eastern coast

Dunbar is another area to consider when building an itinerary further east. You can compare rounds around Dunbar with a stay in the wider Thurston Manor area. Allow for loading clubs, weather and the drive to your tee time when choosing how many rounds to fit into a day.

Find clubs and book directly

Use Scotland’s Golf Coast course directory ↗ to start your course research and follow through to the individual clubs. Green fees and availability vary; accommodation bookings do not include golf unless explicitly stated in the booking details.

Travel with clubs and a group

The 26 bus and local trains can be useful for a separate Edinburgh day, but check how you will reach each golf course with your equipment. Agree a driver or arrange transfers where needed. Ask about parking, bed layouts and any equipment storage before booking a property; these vary by listing.

A relaxed three-day shape

Try an arrival afternoon with no fixed tee time, one main round on your full day and a final round only if it fits your departure. Non-golfers can explore nearby towns rather than waiting at every course. Find towns and villages for the rest of your trip ↗.
